Chapters alternate between Bryson and Katz’s adventures and facts about the AT, the mountains and the places they go to or through. They’ll hike 870 miles before abandoning their project and it represents around 40% of the entire trail. The book is a mix of chapters between their walking, their progression on the trail and how things go. ![]() Both are rather inexperienced hikers, no athletes –Katz is overweight and a recovering alcoholic- and not fully prepared for their travels. He starts his journey in Georgia with his old friend Stephen Katz. He’s near the Appalachian Trail (AT) and decides that he wants to hike this mythic trail. ![]() In 1996, Bill Bryson moves back from England to America and settles in New Hampshire with his family. ![]()

Ramona may have entered the literary conversation in the 50s, but the series hit its zenith in the late 1970s and early 1980s with a new generation of young readers, library cards in hand. Two of her books, Ramona and Her Father (1977) and Ramona Quimby, Age 8 (1981) were both winners of the prestigious Newbery Medal. While Cleary first put Ramona on the literary map in the 1950s, she continued to create new stories for the character until 1999, when she published Ramona’s World, the last in the series. Quimby would go on to be Cleary’s best-known character and, for many a square-peg-in-a-round-hole girl, a personal touchstone. The godfather of the oddball numismatic specialty, Romines literally wrote the book on "The Hobo Nickel" in 1982, documenting for the first time the original works of "Bo," his teacher Bertram "Bert" Wiegand and myriad other hobo nickel carvers whose given names may never be known. "There were just very few that were actually made after that," Romines told COINage in March.Ī retired metal fabricator in Louisville, Kentucky, Romines considers later carvings "fakes" at worst, and at best something other than "honest-to-goodness hobo nickels." The sole exceptions for Romines are the works of George Washington "Bo" Hughes, a black hobo who started carving Buffalo nickels when they came out in 1913 and kept carving them until late 1981 or early 1982 when he disappeared from a hobo jungle in Florida, never to be seen again. They are little pieces of history to be collected and revered, a brand of folk art that vanished in the 1950s.
